Hear from our Families

"Every day I learn something new at the Grammar School. Some of the best people I have ever met are the teachers. I like it there because the people are nice and there's no bullying." - Grace Audain '24

Encouraging Independent Growth

Middle School: Grades 5 to 9
Middle School marks a significant time of transition for our students. Faculty, staff and coaches support our students’ confidence as their independence and individuality begins to flourish.

Our Middle School faculty challenges their students to develop the literacy, numeracy, and learning skills they will need for our Senior School’s rigorous IB Programme. In addition to a robust academic curriculum, our Middle School students are exposed to a wide variety of art forms, competitive sports, leadership opportunities, and community service, ensuring our students are engaged well beyond the classroom.

Our Pillars in the Middle School

List of 4 items.

  • Academics

The Middle School program builds on the strong foundation of the Prep School, continuing with an advanced curriculum in literature studies, math, science exploration, and French.
  • Arts

From pop art printmaking to landscapes of the Group of Seven, Middle School students are exposed to a wide variety of art forms and comprehensive art history. A school-wide art show is held each spring, featuring pieces from students at all grade levels.

Instrumental music is a thriving part of the arts curriculum, in the studio and onstage. Students can perform as part of the concert band, jazz band, and other small ensembles.

Students perform in a major dramatic production each year, ranging from the works of Shakespeare, classics such as Little Women, or perhaps a student-written collaborative piece.
  • Athletics

A robust physical education program combines regular physical education classes, with a wide variety of competitive sports. Grammar competes in the Nova Scotia public school league, as well as with other independent schools, locally and nationally.
  • Altruism

A commitment to service is an important component of the Middle School experience. All students participate in service learning and have many opportunities to raise awareness, raise funds, or simply provide time and support to people in their community.
