Established in 1958, the Halifax Grammar School is the leading independent, co-educational day school in Atlantic Canada.
At Grammar, we believe all students should discover their passions and develop their potential. Every day, we prepare students for university and for life by developing confidence and independence through a balanced curriculum in academics, athletics, altruism and the arts – because when young people truly recognize their reason and purpose in life, they always make the world a better place.
Today’s Grammar School enrols 500 students, encompasses two campuses, and extends from Junior Primary to graduation year.
For a guided tour, or to arrange for your child to spend a day at the school, call our Admissions Assistant, Faith-Anne Kyle, at 902 406-3001.
Message from the Head Boy and Head Girl
The Halifax Grammar School is the perfect place to find or follow your passion, whether it is playing for a division one championship, or competing against the top debaters in the country. Our teachers create a comfortable learning environment and are always willing to schedule extra help to answer our questions. We are encouraged to express our creativity through film, music, theatre, or the visual arts to balance out academics during the day. Without a doubt, success awaits those who are willing to work hard to achieve their goals at Grammar.
-Kirk Drabble'17, Head Boy
The Halifax Grammar School is a positive environment where you are surrounded by people who push you to succeed. It has allowed me to do the things I love, such as playing basketball, performing in the musical, and participating on student council, all while still balancing academics. It is here where I have been able to form new friendships and memories that will always hold a special place in my heart. Grammar is a community of people who love and care about each other. It is a part of my family, one that I will forever treasure.
The Halifax Grammar School helps students discover their passions, develop their potential, and serve the needs of others. We prepare students for university and life by developing confidence and independence through a balanced curriculum in academics, athletics, altruism, and the arts.
