Grammar's Track & Field team celebrates a banner year

Congratulations to Grammar's Track & Field team for their impressive year, which included breaking school records, and setting personal bests.
Grammar's Track & Field (T&F) Team an excellent year, with nearly sixty students participating.

This year, the team went to the Atlantic Conference of Independent Schools (ACIS) meet and, with the help of our peewee athletes, had the most overall points of any school.

The team had a very strong showing at the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation (NSSAF) Capital Region T&F Championships, held at Beazley Field, Dartmouth, NS. The team placed in the top three in thirty events. Five new Grammar school T&F records were set at the meet. The intermediate boys won the banner for first place in their division. Grammar actually had the most overall points of any school at this meet, which included athletes from all competing HRM junior highs, senior highs, and independent schools. Thirty-six athletes qualified for the Provincial Championships in forty-two events, including nine relays teams. At the NSSAF Provincial T&F Championships, Grammar had another strong showing. The team won the provincial banner for Division 3, with 149 points. The team had the seventh most points of all Division 1, 2 and 3 schools, making it our best overall ranking since 2008. Individual highlights included Edie Wilson's dominant gold medal performances in both senior girls 200m and 400m; Katie Blunden's gold medal performance in the intermediate girls; 400m and rookie David Waller's bronze medal in the junior boys 1500m. Two Grammar school T&F records were further lowered at this meet. The main highlight for the coaches was a large number of personal best performances by our many athletes.

Finally, I would like to thank all of the other coaches and volunteers who worked along with me to make this HGS T&F year a successful one: Jill Kiley, Kelda Smith, D'Arcy Hunter, Sandra Baigent, Leslie Bishop, Gerald Hann, Ainslie Timmons, and Shane Joseph.

Peter Beazley, coach.
