Connor Keefe receives the D&R Sobey Atlantic Scholarship

Every year six outstanding high school students are awarded the D&R Sobey Atlantic Scholarship to attend the undergraduate Commerce program at the Smith School of Business at Queen's University. Connor Keefe, a current Grade Twelve student at Grammar, is one of them.

“I was in disbelief when I was offered the Sobey Scholarship, because I know some of the past scholars, and it was hard to picture myself in the same category as them,” says Connor.

The scholarship is valued at $80,000 over four years and is awarded for academic ability, creative and original thinking, and leadership qualities. On top of maintaining a high academic average and being involved in school and community activities, Connor also played forward on Grammar’s senior boys basketball team.

“If I have learned anything about balancing school and athletics," says Connor, "it is that you have to be on top of your work at all times, and if you can do this, then basketball becomes a really fun outlet to get away from the work for a few hours.”

The skills that Connor has learned at Grammar will come in handy at Queen’s, as he has secured a spot on their men’s basketball team.

“A few lessons I have learned at Grammar that I will take after graduation are one, the importance of character from Coach McGarrigle, two the importance of working hard no matter what it is you are doing, and three the importance of time management. I feel these three things are going to be important in the years to come.”
