HGS Retires Justine Colley's Jersey

HGS alumna, Justine Colley'09 was the special guest speaker at the June 11 Athletics Banquet held in the Meinertzhagen Theatre. She was introduced by her high school coach, Kathy Spurr. Justine shared fond memories of her four years at HGS, challenged students to make the most of their time at Grammar and thanked her coaches and teachers for giving her the confidence and encouragement to succeed. She offered this advice to our current students: “It's going to take a lot of hard work and it takes a lot of determination, but I know all of you, being student athletes, you all have it within you to succeed.”

Following her address, Tim McGarrigle, Athletics Director, surprised guests by announcing that HGS was retiring her jersey number. This marks the first time in our history we have retired a player’s jersey. Justine's #5 will now live in the trophy case in the Senior School in perpetuity. Tim also recognized the contributions of faculty member and coach Jakob Faltner. Jakob will be returning to Germany next year and Tim presented him a small parting gift on behalf of HGS for all his efforts.

The focus then turned to the success of our student athletes. The complete list of award recipients can be found here.

A larger collection of photos than that which is attached to this article can be viewed here, compliments of Kim Turner.

Thank you to the coaches and parents who volunteered their time to make the night (and this season) successful.
