Gay Silverman To Retire in January

After fifteen years of employment with Halifax Grammar School, and service in many other roles dating back to 1980, Director of Alumni Affairs Gay Silverman has decided to retire at the end of January 2014.

Gay’s rich history with the school includes years participating in and leading the Parents’ Activities Committee, the Development Committee, search committees, planning committees, and many other similar involvements. She was instrumental in the organization of the grand opening of the Atlantic Street expansion, the school’s 30th, 40th and 50th anniversary celebrations, and the capital campaign to purchase Tower Road School. She began the Annual Giving campaign, designed a new school tie as part of the Dress Code committee, and worked with Michael Grunsky to convert the TRC gym to a multi-purpose theatre. In the early days, she and Karla Silver created HGS advertising by hand, literally cutting and pasting in an era before computers were on every desk. Gay was a homestay parent for two German students in 2000-2001 and is seen here with one of the students, Axel Tilse, during his return visit in 2007. Her children Jennifer’92 and Craig’95 are proud alum.

Gay is looking forward to spending more time with her family and friends, on personal interests, and to increasing her volunteerism in her retirement.

Details of the celebration of Gay’s service will be forthcoming.
