The Halifax Club was again the grand venue for the third Annual Alumni Dinner & AGM on April 9. Our guest speaker, Dan Rees’88, is Senior Vice President, Retail Risk Management, International Banking with Scotiabank. Dan was introduced by former classmate Holly (McCurdy) Dunn’88 who paid tribute to Dan’s impressive career in banking and his commitment to community service, most notably his work on the Principal’s Task Force on Alumni Relations and his impact as President of the Queen’s University Alumni Association. Some good-natured ribbing from Holly of her perceived similarities yet disparate outcomes of their respective career paths added a good touch of light-hearted humour. Dan is also this year’s recipient of the Jubilee Alumni Service Award. Patricia McDermott, Chair of the Board of Governors, presented the award that honours those individuals who truly exemplify the school spirit and motto: ‘Enter to learn ~ Go forth to serve.’ Congratulations, Dan.
At the reception, the musical talents of students Julie Chen M3 and Amy Huang M3 on piano, Seasy Huang S1, Sophie Poulos S1, and Megan Sutton S1 on flute was a delightful soothing accompaniment to the hum of conversation. Our students always impress their audience and the alumni and other guests certainly appreciated their contribution.
Thank you to our loyal alum and everyone else who attended the dinner, which included several of our faculty and staff as well as former faculty. It was lovely to welcome Dan’s wife Kelly KyleRees and their young guest and neighbour Rachel Davies. Special thanks to our emcee of the evening, PeterDawson’81, Alumni Association executive member, whoskilfully guided the evening program.
