The Advancement Office is committed to achieving the strategic goals of the school by building awareness, cultivating stakeholder relations, and generating financial resources to support the school's mission. We work closely with all Grammar volunteers, including the Parents' Activities Committee, to plan special events and new fundraising initiatives.

Annual Giving

Every year, past and present Grammar families, alumni, grandparents, faculty, and friends help to make Grammar a better place for all by contributing to the Annual Giving campaign. By giving annually, you allow us to fund programs, support students in financial need and purchase important teaching equipment and technologies that tuition alone cannot cover.

Our Annual Giving campaign runs from July 1 to June 30 every year. All donations are fully tax deductible.

    Ways to Give

List of 6 frequently asked questions.

    • Enrolment Bonds

A bond donation is one of the most impactful gifts a parent can make. It is an important opportunity to make the school stronger and more stable for future generations of students. After all, it was the generosity and leadership of past parents that lead to our school's founding. Today's parents can show leadership to the school community by donating their children’s enrolment bonds. Bond donors receive a full charitable tax receipt and will be recognized for their contributions on the permanently displayed bond recognition plaque in our Tower Road Campus.

    • Endowment

An endowment is an investment fund set aside for the long-term support of our school through bursaries, scholarships, and educational programs. An endowment can be established in the name of a loved one or faculty member. Growing the Grammar endowment is a priority for the Advancement Office, as it will provide the necessary resources to meet the needs of the school in perpetuity. A strong endowment is critical to long-term financial stability and paramount to ensuring Grammar remains one of the educational leaders in our community.

As of 2016, we have ten active endowment funds:
      • Jubilee Endowment Fund
      • Geoffrey Meyerhoff Scholarship
      • Elliott Spafford Scholarship
      • Jennifer Chapman Scholarship
      • Marjorie Cooper Scholarship
      • Robert Grant Endowment for Student Opportunity
      • PAC Endowment for Professional Academic Development
      • Spurr Family Bursary
      • Hansen-MacDonald Bursary
      • Gay Silverman Bursary
Donations can be designated to any of the above funds. Feel free to contact Katie for information about endowments at HGS.
    • Planned Giving

Long-range financial planning is essential to our students' futures. With the generous support of alumni, faculty, and friends, whose commitment to Grammar extends beyond their lifetime, we can generate the financial resources needed to help students achieve their goals.

We welcome inquiries about bequests to Grammar, gifts of life insurance, and other life-income gifts that will provide for the future stability of the school.

"Annual Giving at Halifax Grammar is incredibly important, in that not only does is help fund important programs in support of financial assistance and specialized classroom equipment, but it enables Grammar in a tangible way to continue to provide excellence across the curriculum, and in doing so helps Grammar meet its mission and goals. It is not important how much one gives on an annual basis, what is important is that one gives something. When we all give we are a stronger community because of it, and Grammar continues to be the finest independent school in Halifax."
