HFX Wanderers Sign Kieran Baskett ‘19

Kieran Baskett ‘19 travelled home from the United States for March Break in March 2020. He wasn’t able to return due to COVID-19, and we would say things turned out ok for him.

The goalkeeper was signed to the HFX Wanderers FC for the 2021 season with a club option for 2022. He is excited to be part of the Canadian Premier League and to represent Halifax.
Kieran decided in high school that he needed to do more to pursue his dream of playing soccer professionally. He left Grammar to attend a boarding school in Maryland for grades 11 and 12. He then moved to Williamsburg, Virginia, to attend the College of William & Mary, where he earned the position of starting goalkeeper on their soccer team for his freshman year of university. He also had the opportunity to play with the Baltimore Celtic Soccer Club, where he earned the Golden Glove at the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championship in 2019. The Golden Glove is awarded to a player in each division who had the
greatest competitive impact in the National Championships.

Kieran's parents, Roger Baskett '86 and Gillian Hamilton, have supported Kieran every step of the way. He credited his athletic nature to his family; his mother Gillian represented Canada in the 1994 Winter Olympics, competing in the biathlon.

Although his stay in Halifax was planned to be short-lived, Kieran is thrilled for this opportunity, “It’s a dream come true to play for my hometown club.”
