Halifax Grammar School believes clubs and extracurricular programs are an essential component of a complete student experience. Students are strongly encouraged to join any of the existing clubs at Grammar or start one of their own.

Students can also choose to become a part of one of Grammar's more formal organizations that competes against other schools. Students can develop their talents and passions with an eye to compete in:
Students at the Grammar School are grouped into one of four Houses:
Acadia
Glooscap
Privateers
Royals
These Houses are the main focus for how friendly, light-hearted student competition in a wide range of school activities is organized in:
academics
intramural sports
clubs
community service
Many student activities throughout the year are organized by Houses to promote the broadest possible participation in Middle and Senior School and, at various times, from Primary to Grade 12.
All faculty and staff members at Grammar are also aligned with a House and participate in their own spirit-raising activities.
