I am pleased to invite all parents to a round table discussion forum hosted by the board of governors, to be held in the TRC theatre on Wednesday, February 15. We hope you will come and participate in this forum, as it is your input that will assist the board in making key decisions for the future.
The evening's discussions will see community members come together at tables of eight or so, each facilitated by a member of the board of governors, to discuss and provide input on each of the following three themes: mission; strategic goals; and finances.
We ask you to take the time to read the strategic plan (
New Link) prior to attending this forum. Our first mid-year Annual Report will be communicated to you shortly. We also ask you to take the time to read this report prior to attending the round table forum.
Looking forward to seeing you there.

The Grammar community shared a wonderful evening of celebration on January 19, marking the official opening the Performing Arts Studio with tours and student performances. At the Donor Reception prior to the Grand Opening, contributors to the campaign were recognized on the donor plaque that was unveiled and given commemorative lapel pins to mark the occasion. Highlights of the evening included the presentation of the Holly Carr Painting, remarks from campaign chair Patricia McDermott, Headmaster Blayne Addley, band director Dawn Hatfield, and middle school students Aria Publicover and David Baldridge. Guests were treated to featured performances by the Jazz Band and S1 ensemble. Our thanks goes out to everyone who helped make this campaign a success.

Jay Ferguson '86 of Sloan, and Noah Pink '01 have to say in the campaign brochure.

By
clicking on the photo above, you will open the electronic version of
our school’s strategic plan and longer-range vision for the year 2020.
Please take some time to familiarize yourself with our school mission,
and our intermediate and longer-term goals for the school. Our strategic
plan provides the school with the necessary direction and focus to live
our mission, and we have made significant progress towards many of the
goals outlined in the document.
Last year, the school introduced a mutual respect policy that clearly identified the expectation that all members of our community treat one another with dignity and respect. This policy was well received by parents and students alike, and has proven invaluable in resolving disputes.
The school is now introducing a new Student Code of Conduct policy that clarifies our expectations for acceptable student behavior while identifying the clear processes and consequences students and parents can expect when transgressions do occur. The policy clearly differentiates between minor and major misconduct, and it clearly outlines the possible consequences for each. I believe you will find the policy to be comprehensive, fair, and predicated on the principles of natural justice.
The board of governors at a recent meeting approved the new Code of Conduct and we are implementing the code immediately. I will review the policy with our students in our next student assembly, an electronic version will be available to staff and faculty and in the Parent/Student Online Directory, and it will replace the old code in the Parent and Student Handbook.

The 6th annual Grammar Classic basketball tournament took place at The Tower November 24-26, with Grammar's girls team winning an exciting final over Halifax West, while the boys finished third by beating Memorial.
Jane McLaughlin S2 was MVP, Belce Yoruk S3 was top defensive player in the girls tournament, and Sven Stammberger S3 was an all-star on the boys side of the tournament.
Highlights for the players included having most of the student body come to a spirit game each day, the attendance of a band under the direction of Ms. Hatfield and the school's new mascot, which displayed an amazing ability to do pushups.
