Basketball has always been a popular sport at Grammar, successfully moving up to competition at the Division 1 level in recent years. In the past, we have competed with eight basketball teams (four in both the Senior and Junior levels).
Our Division 1 Boys Team is coached by HGS Athletics Director Tim McGarrigle. In the 2007-08 season, led by veterans Noel Jones, Matt Johnston and Ryan Cutcliffe, the team finished third at Provincials.
Our Division 1 Girls Team, 2007 Provincial Champions, is coached by Kathy Spurr, a former Olympic team member and three-time All Canadian Basketball Star. In 2007-08, with eight returning players, including two-time Metro MVP Justine Colley, the girls maintained a record of 32-3, captured the Metro and Capital Region titles, placed first at the Grammar Classic, Dairytown Classic, and Citadel Holiday Classic and finished third in the province.
Our Division 3 Girls Basketball Team is coached by Michael Peterson. The D3 Boys Team is coached by Jason Rodney.
The Junior High Teams are coached by Darrell MacInnis (Boys), and Cindy Wilson (Girls). In 2007-2008, for the second year in a row, the Junior Girls Team won the CAIS National Jr. Girls Basketball Championship.
