Scholarships and Bursaries
Bursaries

Bursary awards are provided to students who have been admitted to the school and have demonstrated financial need. Bursaries are available for current or new students in Grades 7 to 12. The maximum amount for bursary funding is 90% of tuition fees.
Bursary applicants complete a detailed form, to be assessed by an independant onrganization which makes a recommendation to the school’s Financial Aid Committee.


Scholarships

Scholarships are financial awards with a minimum value of $1,000 per academic year and are awarded to students based on merit. The Halifax Grammar School offers internal as well as external Scholarships
to students in Grades 9 and up. Applicants and their families should refer to our website and view book.

Enrolment Bond

Families who receive a bursary totalling 50% of tuition fees or more are not required to purchase an enrolment bond for their child. Families who receive a bursary totalling less than 50% of tuition fees are required to pay 50% of the bond ($1,750).

Entrance Scholarships include:International Baccalaureate ScholarshipThe International Baccalaureate Scholarship is awarded to a student entering Grammar in Grade 9, 10, 11 or 12 who has achieved superior academic results, possesses solid work habits and demonstrates self discipline.

Peter Montgomery ScholarshipThe Peter Montgomery Scholarship is awarded to students entering Grammar in Grade 9, 10, 11 or 12. Successful applicants will be enthusiastic students with good work habits, strong academic backgrounds, and who are willing to share their talents with members of their school community or members of a wider community.

Jim Spatz ScholarshipThe Spatz Scholarship is awarded to a student entering Grammar in Grade 10, 11 or 12 who shows academic promise and who has demonstrated determination by taking on a difficult project or projects and seeing it or them through to completion.

Howard Conter ScholarshipThe Conter Scholarship is awarded to a student entering Grammar in Grade 10, 11 or 12 who is well-rounded with a proven record of school and community service and who will take a leadership role in student affairs.

Colin MacDonald ScholarshipThe MacDonald Scholarship is awarded to a student entering Grade 10, 11 or 12 with average capabilities who has a strong interest in the creative arts and the desire to realize his/her talents and the willingness to work to the best of his/her ability in all areas of endeavour.

Drew Bethune ScholarshipThe Bethune Scholarship is awarded to a student entering Grammar in grades 9, 10, 11, or 12. The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic student with a solid academic background, leadership abilities, and a modest self-assurance that conveys character and a sense of duty.

John Messenger Legacy Scholarship
The John Messenger Legacy Scholarship is awarded to a student entering Grammar in Grade 9, 10, 11 or 12 who has great academic potential and who will lead by example to the point where the Scholarship Committee believes the recipient will have such positive impact on the school that his/her accomplishments will provide a legacy recognized by all.
