How to Apply to the Grammar School

1. Read the Information thoroughlyCheck out our website for information on Academics and Programs, the International Baccalaureate Program, Arts, Athletics and Student Life. For a print copy of our Viewbook please contact the Admissions Office and a package will be mailed to you.

2. Visit the School

Families have several options and are invited to take advantage of any or all:

  • Attend an event such as Open House, school sports tournaments and cultural arts presentations, off-site fairs and other Admissions events
  • Visit and tour the school with Student Ambassadors and/or Senior staff, available year round; please contact Admissions for an appointment
  • Attend a day of classes. Prospective students spend a day with a compatible student mentor assigned by the Head of the school division being visited


3. Submit an ApplicationApply early. Often grades can be full from year to year. It is not unusual to apply more than one year ahead.
A fully complete application consists of:

  • a completely filled in application form
  • a non refundable $125 application fee (CAD)
  • copies of school reports from the current and most recent previous school years
  • a Teacher Reference Form completed by a current teacher of the applicant and submitted directly by the teacher to the school in a sealed envelope
  • any other pertinent information, awards, certificates, assessments which you feel will assist us in making the best educational decision for your child


4. Make an Appointment for an Admissions AssessmentThere is an Admissions Assessment which is mandatory for each student entering Grammar in Junior Primary to Grade 12. Tests can be administered on site or couriered to a qualified teacher if the student lives at a distance such that travel to the school would be inconvenient.

Junior Primary and Senior Primary Assessments take place November through February.

Assessmet Dates for 2010-2011

January 30 (Grades 1-12)
February 26 (Scholarship Application Deadline)
February 27 (Grades 5-12, also Scholarship Testing date)
April 17 (Grades 1-12)
May 15 (Grades 5-12)

Entrance Assessments for sutndets entering Junior and Senior Primary are scheduled individually by appointment, through the Admissions Office  at 431-8550.

5. Arrange for an Interview
Following the assessment, the school will call to arrange for an interview for the prospective student and parents with the Admissions Officer and Senior Faculty once the entrance assessments and submitted application information have been fully evaluated. The interview will take about one hour.

Parent interviews for Junior and Senior Primary students take place at the time of the assessment.

6. Respond to an offer of Acceptance

After all steps are complete, the school will send a letter to (1) offer acceptance, (2) wait list or (3) defer. If offered acceptance, the family is asked to respond within two weeks with a letter to the Admissions office accepting the space and with deposit payment.
