At the Grammar School the Middle School art program is unique. It was constructed to fit into the academic structure of the school. We concentrate our explorations on a chronological study of art history beginning in Middle 3. At this level, the students will learn about the ancient world looking at cave paintings and drawings, Greek vase painting and Roman architecture and mosaics. Our first nations culture and art styles are also reviewed. Middle 4 and Middle 5 continue the journey looking at Romanesque, Gothic and Late Gothic works of art. Projects are based on specific characteristics of each movement. Middle 1 and 2 develop their artistic skills and knowledge of the basic elements and principles of art.
The Senior School art program becomes an elective and fine art enthusiasts enter their training for a senior IB exam and presentation. It is a most rigorous program of documenting development of thought and long studio hours. We offer this program at the standard level only. After the exam, students invite family and friends to their art gallery for a show and reception.
